The Festival de las Flores 2024 in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, was a vibrant and unforgettable event that brought together horticulture enthusiasts, landscape designers, and nature lovers from across the island and beyond. This year, for the first time, the Instituto de Arquitectos Paisajistas de Puerto Rico (IAPPR) had the honor of participating in this generational event, contributing our vision and expertise in landscape architecture to enhance the experience for all attendees.

Our involvement marked a significant milestone for the IAPPR as we had the opportunity to share our passion for sustainable and culturally relevant landscape design with a broader audience. During the festival, we organized several educational talks focusing on key topics in landscape architecture, including plant selection, residential garden planning, and strategies for protecting our green spaces from natural disasters.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the president of the Festival de las Flores for their unwavering support and for allowing us to be part of such a special event. We also want to express our sincere thanks to Janet Laboy from Servicios de Extensión Agrícola for her collaboration and for providing the space we needed to conduct our activities during the festival.

Additionally, we want to recognize and thank all the speakers who generously dedicated their time and knowledge to educate the public on the importance of landscape architecture in creating sustainable green spaces. Our heartfelt thanks go to Luis Pérez, Felix Ramos, Nicole Rivera, and Teresita Del Valle, whose presentations inspired many to view landscape design not just as an aesthetic practice but as a vital tool for community and environmental well-being.

The Festival de las Flores 2024 was an unforgettable experience, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration in future events to further promote the importance of landscape architecture in Puerto Rico. A big thank you to everyone who made this event possible and to those who joined us for our first participation in such a prestigious event!
